Wow, cant believe that its been exactly one year after my last song post...well, its been a year of changes, Obama's rhetoric rubbed in a lil on me too i guess - new job, place, people..but one thing that has not changed yet is my single status :) ..and yea, thought its the perfect occasion to post this song.

Here is my cover version of the song 'Give me some sunshine' from the movie '3 Idiots', with a lil twist - a video theme and some custom lyrics. I would like to append the title of my version as 'Give me some sunshine - 4th Idiot?'. So rather than rant about the time and effort ive spent looking for the 'dream girl' (i dont use that word anymore btw :) ), will let you figure out the theme which should be evident from the video and the customized lyrics of the song (below).

Its been a small hiatus again and amidst all the busy time and messy situation around us, lets keep the valentines spirit alive.
'Ishtamalle' is a melodious, delectable piece of track that found its way into the heart of melody lovers, and the song dwells on the romantic exchanges and discourse shared. From the Mal movie 'Chocolate', and from the team (Alex Paul, Vayalar Sharath) that delivered melodious tracks like 'Ente Khalbile' from 'Classmates', this romantic melody was one of the best written, composed and arranged song released last year.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na was touted to be the Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak of the 21st century...and as did the music of QSQT bring a fresh whiff of air in hindi music, the music of JTYJN is also young and refreshing and the musical genius of ARR is proven again in that music can be simple..yet brilliant. Rahman's choice and use of musical instruments and voices in this album is brilliant, as is his choice of musical genres.

The track featured here is probably the most popular track in the album, 'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi' is a foot tapping number with an interesting rhythmic structure, with an influence of contemporary R&B with a nice guitar and good vocals.

So we are living in interesting and trying times, and people are looking for the right directions, decisions and outcomes..all i can sing is there will be light at the end of the tunnel and everythin gonna be ok..so lets liven up, get out of the blue funk and crack a smile...

Now that was a small break again, have been on the road for couple months and i really missed on the audioblog scene..anyways, its been a while since i sang a song, that too a mal one, so i dug up some previous requests and voila..this one is a perfect one for the times (my time?)..

Sundariye Vaa is a nice, romantic melody that was really popular when the album 'Chembakame' released sometime back..i had attempted another song from this album earlier, but this one clearly stands out for its good music and lilting mallu mood.

This is a recent popular Harris Jeyaraj song from the tamil film Bheema...starring Vikram and Trisha..this song again has the usual Harris stamp all over it..nice, simple melody coupled with catchy beats and orchestration to create an overall mesmerizing feel...the song was beautifully sung by Mahathi, Prasanna and of course, one of my most favourtie singer, Hariharan. I have always admired the great versatality of Hariharan in singing film songs (multilingual), ghazals, carnatic, indipop and fusion..and of course for his mesmerizing voice..so here is my first humble effort to perform a song of his..a big thanks to TC for sharing the track and giving an opportunity to sing my first duet here, alongwith Mahathi :) ..this one goes out to my good friend Hari, who is tying the 'knot' next month..all the very best buddy...

Its the time to disco! nope, not the song that goes by that name...but another groovy number called 'Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai' from the film 'Woh Lamhe' ..this song was a huge, popular hit in recent times..composed by Pritam (ahem! the guy most accused nowadays for 'inspirations' and blatant lifts sometimes)..this song also doesnt escape that accusation..it is a straight lift from a song called 'Tak Bisakah' by one of Indonesia's popular music groups 'Peterpan'! ..not to say Pritam is not talented, he has delivered some nice, original songs, but also have a lot of blatant lifts and 'inspirations' to his credit. I guess the good side of 'inspirations' are that such diverse, wonderful tunes from different parts of the globe are being exposed to people, the only thing is that these tunes also need to be credited to the original artists, thats the least that any composer should do to maintain some credibility. Anyways, coming back to the song, Pritam has managed to create some brilliant musical arrangements, but the highlight of the song is the man of all seasons, KK. He is one of the singers that i most admire in the younger generation for his great voice, versatality and talent and he has done a rocking rendition of this song too...the one performed here is the dance/remix version of the song...so lets hit the dance floor and party! do let me know if you enjoyed it..

Happy New Year to all music lovers and listeners of my audioblog..thanks a lot for sparing the time to listen to my songs and for the valuable comments..please keep those wonderful requests coming and i will try my best to fulfill them and continue to perform entertaining songs for u..

So lets start the New year with a fun and peppy song..this is a very popular song called 'June Ponal' from a tamil film titled 'Unnale Unnale'...composed by one of the leading music directors in tamil, Harris Jeyaraj. Harris started his career as a keyboardist and percussionist for various music directors based in South India, predominantly A R Rahman, Karthik Raja,and Vidhyasagar. After the mega success of his first music score for the film 'Minnale', that included the ever popular song 'Vaseegara', he delivered a slew of musical hits in 12B, Kaaka Kaaka, Saami, Anniyan, Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu, Ghajini, to the latest, 'Bheema'. Harris' songs are famous for its urban, breezy, youthful tunes and for its right mix of melody, racy rhythms, and splendid orchestration, at times it reminds us of AR Rahman songs. This particular song was alleged to be an inspiration from an English song called 'All Rise' by the pop band 'Blue'. One cant deny that there is a similarity in the opening beats and groove, however overall Harris managed to produce an impressive song. Although some of the recent songs of Harris sound very similar to his previous songs in beats/chorus/melody, they are nevertheless entertaining and Harris continues to churn out hits.

I have been planning to sing this song for a long time since it was requested by couple of friends, finally managed to get hold of the music track (thanks a lot Aji Chettan!)..I did have some fun and challenge singing this song, as the music track did not come with much of the signature background vocals and interludes (that is part of almost every Harris songs)..so i did my bit to experiment and throw in some background vocals, chorus, harmonies and effects myself, hope i did some justice to it...wish i was in a Harris or Rahman studio for that :)..

Tip: Please listen to the song using a decent set of headphones/earphones (and the broadband version, of course) for better quality and to enjoy the song completely (including my chinna background vocals and effects ;) )

Here is a very soulful song from a recent movie called 'Aggar'...from the team of Mithoon and Sayed Qadri that delivered popular hits in movie albums of 'Anwar', 'Bas Ek Pal', 'The Train'...i heard it for the first time after my friend Sachin requested this song (thnks a lot man for making me aware of this song), it was an impressive song, with a unique feel to it, its melodic music arrangements coupled with “lounge” effects that creates a serene and tranquil feel , meaningful lyrics, soothing vocals (especially the female vocals, that adds an icy-chill, haunting feel to the song)..its the kind of song that grows on you with repeated listening, and evokes the tenderness of painful love..incidentally, the feelings and emotions required in the song was inspired by a certain Laila..hence, in addition to my buddy Sachin, who requested the song, i would also like to dedicate the following lines of the song to the Laila -

There were some requests for an English number, and altho not a usual singing territory, decided to try one for a change..this is a song called 'Feel' by the British pop artist, Robbie Williams. His career started as a member of the pop band "Take That" in 1990. He left "Take That" in 1995 to begin his solo career. Its said that since his solo debut, Robbie Williams has sold more albums in the UK than any other British solo artist in history and he is definitely a great performer and entertainer. "Feel" was Williams' biggest international hit, becoming his first number-one single in the United World Chart and his best selling single in Europe. I guess i am still in the mood for rocking music..i am always, since im a great fan of Rock music..slow, hard, metal, psychedelic...with my favs being Led Zeppelin, U2, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Nirvana.. so its natural that one gets hooked to music of bands back home like Junoon, Jal, Strings, etc that so effectively fuse Sufi/classical styles with Rock..so when my friend requested this song by the band Jal, i got really pepped up since it was the first song that got me hooked to Jal's songs earlier. This is one of the initial singles that really brought the band into the limelight..Jal's songs have soul- stirring music, great lyrics, awesome guitar, drums, amazing vocals..one can see influences of rock, classical music in the songs..The band consists of three guys- Farhan Saeed (vocals), Goher Mumtaz (Guitarist/Lyricist/Composer) and Aamr Sheraz (Bass/Guitar). Formerly, Atif Aslam was also a part of the band, and had split up. Hence, even this song has different versions, and was also featured in the albums of Atif. However, the original Aadat single by Jal still rocks, and i have tried to perform it here..hope you like it..so lets rock!

This is another beautiful love song that is close to my heart..it brings back a lot of memories and is one of the few songs that ive performed most during college days..the song evokes nostalgic moments of first love, lost love and yearnings for the ever elusive new love..love..the most intriguing word/feeling.. beyond definition.. as everyone puts it. We all search for someone to love, someone who makes us feel complete.. but keeping aside how successful one is/was in love..one must feel blessed if they've at least gone through an experience or feeling of love..many may or may not have gone through the experience yet, many will hopefully face it at some point in life..life is never perfect and love also might not be something you want it to be..but as long as one shares that strong and deep feeling with someone at some point and realises it for what it is.. there.. you might have made a new definition for it (just my 2 cents again ;) ).. Awwright..still in the mood for rocking songs? but its been a while since singing a malayalam song..so wats the way out...an adipoli rocking mallu song! well, there is not much out there, since Mallu songs are usually associated with good slow, soulful melodious songs, and not much of the modern, fusion beats, unlike Tamil music which was revolutionised by the likes of ARR and Harris Jeyaraj. So the closest i got to a rocking number is from a recent Mallu music album ..i guess the Mallu music album scene is doing pretty well nowadays, with some quality music collaborations coupled with good music vidoes released on TV..its also a good medium to showcase new music talents beyond the film music scene..this number is from a recent hit music album called 'Chembakame'..all the songs in this album were impressive, including 'Sundariye vaa' , 'Chembakame', 'Mele maanathe', 'Chempaneer poovil'...its nice to see that the malayalam music album scene is looking up... so crank up the volume and enjoy the killer riffs and power chords in this number...

Here is another hugely popular song from the Paki music scene, and a slightly controversial one too..this single was originally part of the album 'Aadat' by the band 'Jal' and sung by Atif Aslam. Later, when Atif split from the band, he remade this song for the hindi movie 'Zeher'. There was a controversy regarding the rights for this song as Jal claimed that the lyrics and compositions are by Goher Mumtaz who is the lead guitarist of the band and Atif claiming that it is his composition. The internal feuds aside, both parties are doing well for themselves nowadays and gaining wide popularity.
The song featured here is the original version (there are at least 3-4 other versions) and i feel is a more classic and rocking one to listen to than the movie version (which is more of a mass/DJ version).

Am back! after almost 6 months on the road and around the globe, i was wondering whether i still have my vocals intact for singing, thot id give it a try :)..so here is the reprise of my audioblog with an indipop song..or shud i say pakipop..its a song from the album Doorie, by Atif Aslam, who is one of the most talented voices out there..i remember i was hooked when i listened to one of the band's (Jal) initial songs - 'Aadat' and then the hugely popular 'Woh Lamhe' ..i believe most of the paki musicians are hugely talented..apart from the legends like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Mehdi Hassan, etc, i think most of the current bands and singers really 'rock' - Jal, Fuzon, Strings, Junoon (band no more, loved them!)...and many more lesser known ones that our famous bollywood music directors take inspiration (and blatant lifts!) from once in a while..did you know that 'Bheegey Hont Tere' from 'Murder' was a blatant lift from the Pakistani track 'Menu tere naal', by Najam Sheraz, whats sad is that these talented people are not even credited when such 'inspirations' are made..anyways, coming back to the song, i heard it for the first time after it was requested by a friend, Shabu, who said it was her fav song..i do agree..the song has great lyrics and soft melody..and has got a 'ghazal' feel to it..a track about selfless love and a promise of togetherness forever..

Kal Ho Na Ho.." songs with meaningful lyrics coupled with good music does come out once in a while in current hindi film songs..this song evokes the same feeling that one gets when hearing the golden oldies like "zindagi ek safar" and "aane wala pal"..about life..so are we really making the best of our lives? not to get too philosophical..there are mundane activities like working, coming back home, having dinner, sleeping..and then there are good things like promotion, vacation, family, friends..living life to fullest could take different variations and meaning for different people..as long as it inspires hope, love, happiness, and contentment, one might be on the right track..i guess its all about one's attitude that can bring about this fulfillment..just my 2 cents on this :)..so keep in mind..you never know what can happen tomorrow..live life to the fullest..

This song is from an excellent malayalam movie called 'Perumazhakkalam' (a recent hindi movie called 'Dor' was inspired from the same). The movie had beautiful songs and the song featured here is a love song with a 'maappila' feel to it..melodious, pristine, romantic..i know this is supposed to be a love duet, but unfortunately, i dont have that luxury yet..so dont get too lost in the situation of some of the lyrics, i have my own twists/meanings for them :)..in the original song, the male part was rendered by one of my favourite singer, the 'bhava gayakan', P. Jayachandran. At the times when i started appreciating songs much better, and was mostly hearing Jayachandran's songs of the 70s and 80s, and he was in a break of sorts for a while, it was a pleasant surprise to hear his sweet voice back in the song 'Shishirakala' from 'Devaragam', then followed by a slew of hits like 'Prayam nammil', 'kannathil muthamittal'..and all current hits..his voice is definitely the most suited for romantic, soulful melodies and only seems to be getting younger with the passing of time..

Along with great acting performances from the likes of Mohanlal in the movie, the music soundtrack was also of high standards, which once in a while reinforces our faith in the quality of malayalam songs nowadays. The music director (Mohan Sithara)and lyricist (Kaithapram) did a commendable job with songs like 'Ithaloornu veena' ,' Mindathedi', and 'Kannamma'. The song featured here was originally sung by Karthik, one of the versatile singers from the current crop of singers in tamil/mal..some of my favs of his are 'Akale' (Akale), 'Kan Pesum varthaigal' (7G Rainbow Colony), 'Ale Ale' (Boys), 'Oru Maalai' (Ghajini).

This song is close to my heart..it was my last performance in college (TAPMI in 2003)...and the only live performance that i recorded.. I love listening to ghazals and Jagjit is definitely one of the best ghazal singers..a Jagjit song, with his unique voice, is such a stress reliever and so soothing to the ears. Some of my favs include 'Tumko dekha to', 'Jhuki Jhuki si nazar', 'Hoton se choolon tum', 'Aankhon me jal raha hai kyun', ' Koi Fariyaad'...This love song from the movie 'Sarfarosh' has great melody and nice lyrics to it, defitnitely one of the best love songs of recent times. There is only one 'take' in live performances, so you will defnitely hear some glitches here..in the singing and orchestra..nevertheless, hope you will like it..
